Many herbs are easily raised from seed and at Gardeningforall we stock a wide range of herb seeds to enable you to have a go! Like other seeds the supermarkets will have only a limited supply of many of these plants. The other disadvantage, other than cost, in buying supermarket herbs is that most are forced in greenhouses so struggle in a house environment, where they tend to go over and quickly start to lose the fragrance and taste that herbs are renowned for. A typical example is Basil which if you grow yourself from seed you get approximately 4000 seed of the Classic Italian Basil, the most common in supermarkets, for just over £2, cost wise there is no comparison and we offer over 6 varieties at any one time. The boundaries as to what is and what isn't a herb becomes ever more blurred and it is possible that some may be found in other categories.
